POSTER ONE

#process #DES101

"The concepts and theme we were given for poster 1 was form and composition. With the guidelines being to create a composition using repetition, containing only geometric shape and had to be in black and white color.

I created my first poster, "Resolute", using pigment liners and a ruler to keep my lines straight.

I used repetition, line work, contrast and proximity in my poster to create a plant growing through the cracks of a rock.

My chosen haiku was "A Poppy Blooms" composed by Japanese artist and poet Katsushika Hokusai.

"I write, erase, rewrite

Erase again, re write, and then

A poppy blooms"

The theme I got from Hokusai poem was Resolution. Like the plant in my poster, it is growing in between rocks that are covering its path. But the plant being a plant, it still manages to grow regardless of the rocks in its way. It comes out of the dark confines the rock has it in and grows up and rises through the cracks becoming more.

I combined lines, repetition and proximity to convey this message and how by standing steadfast with absolute resolution can we overcome many obstacles we face, just like the flower.
