Final Concept

1- What is the problem or challenge and why is it important?

 

We waste a lot of water with everyday home tasks. It's important because not only does it have effects on us, it also has an effect on the environment and animal species. Water conservation should be an important topic talked about with homeowners and neighborhood communities. The fate of humanity lies in the scope if we do not deal with these issues now.

 

 2- How did you go about solving the problem through design? 

 

My idea helps the family to understand their water usage and where they should cut off. When we can understand our water usage and where it occurs the most, we can come up with serious solutions that help us save water, protect our environment and animals, and sustain our society.

 

 

3- What is your solution? 

 

I created a smart network system that connects the whole houses water taps and monitors its usage. We need to understand where most of our water is being used so we can make proper decisions and not put a heavy strain on our water bill.

The devices connected to the main water valve and taps around the house send back data to a monitor screen in the kitchen (because studies shows that is where the family makes most decisions) informing them of their water usage.

It alerts the homeowners if they use to much water and gives them tips on how they could save water. It is a gamified screen that tends to the little kids as well, making saving water a fun game for the whole family. It tracks your progress and gives you real-time data showing you your progress. It congratulates them if they have reached a certain goal encouraging them even more to be mindful about their water use.

 

 

4- What type of immediate impact will it have for the intended user or user groups?

 

Immediate impacts we will see with the use of the product is more saved water. We will have saved enough water to last us more years. There is a less stress when it comes to the water bill.

 

5- How is your product Smart/Connected so that it learns from and informs the larger network?

 

It connects the whole house together to see problems with our water usage. This kind of system should be implemented in the country as soon as possible because water is really important so we need to conserve as much as we can especially with the drought we have in Auckland. It can be implemented as a neighborhood wide system or even a city wide system so we can track and progress our water usage as a neighborhood and as a city.

Being able to track our water usage also educates us on how we should be saving water. Speaking about this topic within families and the whole country can really help us more with conservation of water.

Clean Water and Sanitation

Unknown water leaks can lead to massive water wastage in homes, cities, and the rest of the world. Being able to identify leaks, we'll be able to be more aware and save a ton of water.

We can monitor and reduce our every day water consumption so we can educate ourselves on the responsibility we have for the world and the human race (plus animals)
