In the beginning weeks of our Design course (11/03), we were tasked by our teachers to create a wallet. The activity being to interview and investigate a client so we could create and design the perfect wallet for him/her.

The first step we took on this design journey was interviewing. I sat across my client (my boy Silas) and discussed the many uses he has for his wallet, what he needs for his wallet, and what he wants with his wallet. In this process we were also being taught how to interview and extract the necessary information from the client to create something that the client would be amazed by.

I captured all of my findings and made a little portfolio on Silas, detailing what he wants and what he needs.

Taking the information learned about our client, we moved on to step two of our process. Generate ideas and show to client.

I went away and got to work on some different ideas of how he would want his wallet based on all the information I extracted from Silas before. His main priorities was to have a wallet that can hold his cards, since he is a a cards holding kind of guy, a place to put cash, and a way to be able to get his wallet out of his pocket easier. There was also a sentimental aspect that he wanted for his wallet. Learning all this I came back with a few designs and interviewed him again.

Conducting the interview with him and showing him my ideas, we got down to an idea of what he wanted and after talking about it, I left again.

I went and did a prototype, using crafting paper and fake money and cards to paint a vivid idea in his head about it. (There is no image of the prototype at the moment because it's at school) After going back to him and showing him my idea he was elated and liked my design straightaway.

Overall this design process has helped me to understand what it means to create a satisfactory product for my client. It also taught me the design process that we must follow in order to satisfy the client, and my boy Silas was satisfied.
